Frequently Asked Questions

Why waxing over shaving?

While shaving cuts your hair at the skin, waxing pulls your hair from the root - like tweezing, but faster. (While it’s a myth that shaving produces thicker hair,) Waxing produces a smoother result at the end of your service. Over time, the majority of clients will see thinner, more sparse hairs, resulting in less (or even no) pain and making your hair easier to manage.

Do I need to do anything before or after a wax?

Yes! Please read over my Pre & Post Wax Info to know how to prep for and follow up with your wax <3

How long do you recommend between appointments?

I typically recommend 3-6 weeks, depending on the area and your hair growth between appointments. The longer you go past that, the more your wax will likely hurt. If you come too soon though, your hairs likely won’t all be ready to come up.

“But Paloma my hair grows so fast!” Trust me, I’m hairy too, but I’ve seen very few clients leave a 1-3 week appointment with perfect results. Though I have had plenty who didn’t like it any longer than that and were willing to come in more often as well! I won’t stop you, but I will warn you it won’t be a perfectly smooth wax.

Are there any risks?

Absolutely, though not incredibly common, things can of course always go wrong - which is why I have an extensive intake form to ensure no contraindications.

The most common mishap is a Lift or Skin Lift. Resembling a carpet burn, this is when the top layer of skin comes up with the wax - but don’t worry, while not fun, it’s not as scary as it sounds! Should it ever happen, I will give you Bacitracin, an antibacterial ointment with Zinc to promote healing. Depending on the level of lift, this should heal your lift within 2-4 days. This is most commonly due to dry skin, sunburn, or exfoliating too recently to your appointment - especially with a Retinol or Tretinoin on the face.

Additionally, bruising can sometimes occur due to certain medications, health conditions, or an error in wax placement or removal.

Rarely, these could not be visible to me during your service. I will ALWAYS mention any issue the moment I see it, but should I not see it, please contact me ASAP so I can advise you on care or recommend to seek further care.

With my experience and protocols, burns and infections are incredibly unlikely (and, thankfully I haven’t seen any in my 4+ years.) Though both are reasons to make sure you ditch the sketchy places and find a hygienic, knowledgeable, and experienced waxer.

Can I be waxed on my period?

Absolutely! I just ask that you have a clean tampon in for your service, I always have some on hand if needed!
Some clients do feel increased pain during waxing on their period due to hormones.

Can I get waxed while pregnant?

Also absolutely! But again, most clients report increased pain from hormones and increased hair growth from hormones and prenatals. I can lift the angle of my bed when you reach the point you can’t lay flat <3

Can skincare or medication affect a wax?

YES! Please make sure to answer your intake form honestly and thoroughly to make sure you do not have any products, medications, or conditions that may prohibit you from waxing. Some but not all include Retinol, Tretinoin, Blood-Pressure Medications, and some Auto-Immune conditions.
